Toyota, the Japanese automaker showcased the new FT-1 performance concept at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, on Monday.

According to the latest report, FT-1 stands for “Future Toyota 1, and the company is planning that how the FT-1 should fit into the future of the company.

If looked at the technical specifications of the car, the FT-1 is an EV, as all it takes for a powertrain is a small battery and motor to move it around on stage.

According to experts, the concept used in the car is not even a proposed powertrain, but as the story suggests, the company has tried to introduce the new Supra, which could have any number of power plants under the hood such as V6, V8, hybrid and inline-six.

Akio Toyoda, the president and CEO of Toyota Motor Corporation said in a statement that he had challenged Toyota’s Calty Design Research team to create a car with passion and “a palpable heart-pounding sense of excitement.”

Instead of making design decisions “by consensus among a large group of stakeholders”.

According to the CEO, he gave this challenge to the team because he wanted them to produce cars that could connect more deeply with the customers.

Adding on to it, he also said that design elements from the FT-1 concept will itself search for a way into future of Toyota products, and possibly even the next Supra, if it comes to materialize.

The company also revealed that it anticipated the sports coupe to be powered by “a high-technology, high performance internal combustion engine”.
