Indonesian action star Iko Uwais will be back on the big screen in 2014 with the release of Gareth Evans’ ‘The Raid 2: Berandal’.
The first Indonesian teaser trailer for the film was proudly premiered by Twitch. The first movie was confined to a single building but the trailer connotes that the location and scale of characters and action has been broadened in the sequel. And the teaser shows off a lot of the key faces and snippets of a handful of major set pieces to give a sense of what is coming.
At just over a minute in length, the clip accomplishes two important goals: raising the stakes of the original movie, and showing off just enough without giving anything away.
Putting the plot and the story summary on the back burner and drawing attention to the basic message here has to do with Berandal‘s scope.
Scaling up the level of intricately choreographed violence in ‘The Raid: Redemption’ and introducing a whole new cast of unique, completely terrifying characters like the recent acquaintance, the ever-fashionable Hammer Girl.
The Welsh filmmaker earlier blew the minds of viewers with his instant martial arts classic in The Raid: Redemption, this time round Evans wants his audience to know that Berandal will beat the tar out of them, giving out just enough to keep the suspense.
This is a fast teaser, one that captures only heartbeats of carnage with fast-cuts between fight sequences, gangland assassinations, and Iko Uwais – star of the original film.
Sony Pictures Classic scheduled the movie to be released in US in April 2014. We have our eyes on it and hearts waiting for the whole sequel.
