A brand new futuristic virtual reality headset called Project Morpheus was unveiled by Sony On Tuesday evening. It looks and works likethe much-hyped virtual-reality headset, the Oculus Rift from the startup Oculus VR so it’s not the first of its kind.
The Oculus VR made its own news on Wednesday : It revealed its newest version of the Oculus Rift. The upgraded Rift featured a faster performance and crisper screen than previous models so we guess that the final model would be available soon.
What is a virtual reality game headset?
The device that you wear over your eyes just like a pair of goggles is a virtual reality (or VR) headset. It shows you an image on high-definition screens in front of your eyes and it blocks all external light. The sole goal of a VR headset is to immerse you in a game and make it more realistic. In VR games, your point of view is your character’s point of view; by tracking your head movement, so that wherever you look, your character will look. So you’ll feel like you are inside the game if done well.
The VR headsets are not consoles on their own. In the Oculus Rift case it must be connected by a cable to a gaming system—a computer or for a Sony’s Morpheus to a PlayStation 4 console.
Who makes virtual-reality headsets?
The most well-known maker is Oculus VR. Started as a Kickstarter project in 2012, now stands as an emblem of what gaming could be like in the near future. The final version, along with a game marketplace, could be out by the end of the year. Oculus hasn’t announced a price, though developer’s kits cost $350.
Project Morpheus makes the PlayStation maker with the The Sony’s recent announcement, the next most notable player. According to a Sony executive, Morpheus would sync up with the PlayStation 4, and Sony’s PlayStation gaming controller and Move motion sensor, but did not announce a release date or the price. The popular game maker Valve is also working on a headset.
