Sony has announced two new waterproof smartphones – the Sony Xperia Z1S and the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact and preorders for the Xperia Z1S will start from January 13th.
The company claims that the new devices can withstand water immersion up to 4.5 feet and that too for half an hour.
Sony had debuted water-resistance technology when it had revealed the Sony Xperia Z and now the tech giant gets deeper into this technology by announcing these two new devices. The Z1S will be exclusively available for T-Mobile users in the United States.
Sony Xperia Z1S
As already mentioned the Z1S can withstand water up to 4.5 feet for 30 minutes. The water-sealed design has been highly improved by making the headphone connector waterproof too.
So now there is no need for a rubber cover as it was in the Xperia Z. Sony has provided a dedicated camera button enabling underwater photography. Sony unveiled the phone at CES 2014 in Las Vegas.
The key features of the phone include a 5 inch display, a 20.7 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front camera. A physical dedicated camera button is also provided to click pictures underwater.
It is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm MSM8974 processor and also has 2GB of RAM. The phone has 32GB internal storage, but it is still unknown if it can be extended via an external memory card. The phone has 3000mAh battery and provides connectivity via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, Xperia Link and 3G.
The Sony Xperia Z1S will be available for preorder from January 13th and will be available on sale from January 22. The phone is prices at $528 through T-Mobile and can be paid through 24 EMIs of $22 each.
Sony Xperia Z1C
This is the second phone revealed by the Japanese tech giant, the Sony Xperia Z1C where the C stands for Compact.
The pricing of this device has not been reveled yet and all we know is that the price of the Z1C will lie between the Xperia Z and the previous Xperia Z smartphone variants.
Some of the key features of the phone include a 4.3 inch Triluminous HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and with X-Reality engine.
The phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz and has 2GB of RAM. The phone has 16GB of internal storage and memory can be extended up to 64GB via an external microSD card.
The phone has 2300mAH battery with Stamina mode and is also waterproof as well as dustproof. The phone also sports a 20.7 megapixel Exmor RS sensor, BIONZ processing engine and LED flash. It also has a 2 megapixel front camera for video conferencing. The market release date of the device is still awaited.
