PS4 vs Xbox One: Oculus Rift will not come to Xbox One or Sony Playstation 4

There is bit of a bad news for gamers who were waiting for headset Oculus Rift to come to Xbox One or PlayStation 4 as it doesn’t seem like coming anytime soon.

Creator Palmer Luckey told TechRadar that consoles in general are “too limited” for what Oculus VR has planned.

“Consoles are too limited for what we want to do,” the 21-year-old Luckey said. “We’re trying to make the best virtual reality device in the world and we want to continue to innovate and upgrade every year–continue making progress internally–and whenever we make big jumps we want to push that to the public.”

“The problem with consoles in general is that once they come out they’re locked to a certain spec for a long, long time,” he added. “Look at the PCs that existed eight years ago.

There have been so many huge advances since then. Now look at the VR hardware of today. I think the jump we’re going to see in the next four or five years is going to be massive, and already VR is a very intensive thing, it requires rendering at high resolutions at over 60 frames a second in 3D.”

Though the Oculus Rift may not be planned for consoles, Microsoft and Sony are both reportedly working on proprietary virtual reality headsets for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, respectively.

The Oculus Rift headset remains in development at Oculus VR, though no release date has been announced yet for the commercial version, which is expected to be available for $300 when it launches.
