Peter Capaldi, bookies’ favorite, will be the new Doctor Who. He is said to be a sensible choice of the BBC as BBC wanted an older and quicker actor that the last three doctors.
Capaldi is an award winning Scottish director, a skilled comedian and an actor with real gravitas. Capaldi has also worked in The Thick of It as Malcolm Tucker.
The Scottish actor is a lifelong fan of the show and has already appeared in it in a small role. When offered the role of Doctor Who Peter Capaldi, however, thought that he was too old for the role.
He was ready to quit his acting career and had dire financial needs. He had even thought of selling his house. But his fate took a positive turn and he was revealed as the 12th Doctor this weekend. Producer Bob, Capaldi’s best man at his wedding, said that this was Peter’s dream role.
Capladi was seen in Brad Pitt film “World War Z” recently. He will be seen sharing the screen with Angelina Jolie in the upcoming film Maleficent which will hit the box office on July 2, 2014.
Capaldi has won BAFTA film and BAFTA TV awards in 2010 for his role in “The Thick of It”. Doctor Who will be celebrating its 50th anniversary this autumn. It has produced almost 800 episodes since 1963 and is the world’s longest running sci-fi show.
Matt Smith, the current doctor, left the show in June. He wished Capaldi good luck as he would have to work hard for the role.
