As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, Lamborghini will launch a super-limited run of one of its most exclusive models: the $4.5 million Veneno Roadster.
The Lamborghini Veneno Roadster, Lamborghini’s super-crazy version of the Lamborghini Veneno, positioned behind the 2-passenger cockpit will do 221 MPH, courtesy of its 740 horsepower 6.5 litre V12 engine.
Power is delivered to all four wheels via Lambo’s 7-speed “ISR” transmission. This slick gearbox is capable of shifting gears almost as quickly as transmissions used in Formula One race cars.
The Veneno’s boisterous body-work is crafted entirely out of carbon-fiber to keep weight to an absolute minimum. The car features permanent all-wheel drive with a pushrod suspension.
Many of the Veneno Roadster’s exterior body panels are shared with the hardtop model. A premium has been put on aerodynamics. Its extreme bodywork, evocative of an enemy alien spaceship, is made from the same carbon-fiber reinforced polymer as the Veneno, designed for improved down force and air diffusion.
Lamborghini says the Veneno Roadster can hit a top speed of 221 mph and sprint from zero to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds. “There is no roof, just a strong rollover bar for optimum safety,” said Lamborghini in a statement. “The design is focused on optimum aerodynamics and stability through fast corners, with handling akin to that of a racing prototype.”
Despite the fact that the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster is a street-legal offering, it wouldn’t be seen out on the road. Lamborghini has just confirmed nine examples to be built and that all nine models will be built in 2014.
