Jason Segel to play the role of David Foster Wallace


Jason Segel, the American actor will be playing the role of portray author David Foster Wallace, who committed suicide in 2008, in “The End of the Tour”.

Segel will star opposite Jesse Eisenberg, who in the movie will be playing the role of David Lipsky, the reporter who took around five-day road trip with Wallace that became the subject of an article in the magazine. The movie is written by Donald Margulies, and is a reworked version of “Becoming Yourself.”

Segel, who is renowned for his role in “How I Met Your Mother”, The Muppets and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, recently completed the comedy Sex Tape with Cameron Diaz in which the pair can be seen anxiously searching for the sex tape which was made by them, the previous night.

After Foster Wallace’s death, his unfinished novel The Pale King has been released, along with the collection of essays both Flesh and Not. The author didn’t like appearing on screen, as he felt that the medium was unnatural.

DT Max published a biography of the author, this year. Two years ago Jonathan Franzen published a forthright piece on his friendship with Foster Wallace and how he felt after his death.

He also had essays on hip-hop, Signifying Rappers, which were published last month. His 2005 commencement speech for Kenyon College, This Is Water, has also been widely spread after his death.

Since The End of the Tour is based on Lipsky’s book, it does not require any kind of permission from Wallace’s estate. According to reports, the production is expected to begin in early 2014.
