Nelson Mandela died at the age of 95

Nelson Mandela, died yesterday at the age of 95, he was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary who was imprisoned and then became a politician and philanthropist, and was the President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.

He was the global statesman who delivered South Africa from the dark days of discrimination on grounds of race. Mr. Mandela, since last two years had suffered from a series of lung infections and died on Thursday at his home in the company of his family.

Jacob Zuma, President of South Africa made a statement of his passing, which was later broadcasted on national T.V. Mr. Zuma also passed an order stating that Mr. Mandela will be given a state funeral and all national flags to be lowered to half-mast from tomorrow until after the service. He also said that “Nelson Mandela bought us together and it is our duty to bid him farewell”.

Minutes after Zuma’s statement got broadcasted on national T.V, British politicians from across the political divide begun to pay their respects.

Tony Blair, president of United Kingdom also said that the political leader was a “great man” who had made racism “not just immoral but stupid”. During his final days, Mr. Mandela was accompanied by his wife Graca Machel, his three children, 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, with other family and friends in attendance.

There are also some reports which suggests that number of people who will gather this week to bid farewell to Mr. Mandela are expected to be larger than at any event during his life.
