The 25 year old former number 1 overall pick, Greg Oden has signed a two years contract with the winners of back-to-back NBA titles, The Miami Heat.
Nearly four years after he last played, Greg has officially returned back in the NBA. The offer will pay him about $1 Million this coming year.
Oden is very excited with the offer. He said that he is thankful to the Miami Heat organization for helping him come back. Pat Riley, president of Miami Heat, said that they would take a cautious approach with Oden as he has been through micro fracture surgery three times.
In 2007 Oden was the first pick up in NBA draft. He was one spot ahead of Kevin Durant, four-time-all-star and three-time NBA scoring champion. But before his career could begin with NBA he was plagued with injuries. Oden broke his left kneecap in 2009 thereby ending his playing career with Trail Blazers.
Over the two seasons he played with Trail Blazers, Oden has had a career average of 9.4 points. Riley says that the team has spent many months to evaluate Oden both on and off court.
Miami has signed free agents like Oden earlier also. Oden will be playing alongside four times MVP LeBron in South Beach. Oden says the best thing about coming back with NBA is that they don’t expect him to play big minutes immediately. He further adds that he cannot assure to give his 100 percent but he is moving well and is feeling good and has a lot of work to do.
