With the Android 4.4 KitKat being rolled out to Google Nexus devices, hints of rollout plans of the new OS are being whispered by some other companies as well, such as Sony has revealed their plans that their devices will be getting KitKat.
The Sony Xperia Z1 is still a fresh release, but given the recent release of Android 4.4 KitKat and the aggressive update schedule of rivals Samsung and HTC, Sony has come out and confirmed that the flagship Smartphone will be receiving android 4.3 Jelly Bean in December before Christmas in order to attract more holiday shoppers.
The Sony Xperia Z1 currently runs 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Sony’s custom user interface layered on top.
Android 4.4 KitKat will be making its way first to the following Sony devices: Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Z Ultra, and Xperia Z1. In other Xperia Z1 update news, the handset recently received a small update to its social live app, boosting its software version to 1.0.14.
Sony has confirmed that the Xperia Z1 will get android 4.4 KitKat expecting a Q1 2014 rollout. However, it noted that it will update users (through its social newsroom) with the specific information on product upgrade timings and various software features.
Unfortunately the timeline for these devices hasn’t been scheduled as Sony has said it will be a phased process that will be affected by market and various carriers i.e. some regions may get it earlier than other regions due to various technicalities and carriers.
