Amazon cuts Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inch tablet price

Amazon has decided to lower the prices of the 8.9 inch variant of its Kindle Fire HD tablets in the Indian market.

Earlier the tablet had been launched in June in the Indian market and was priced at 21,999 INR for the 16GB variant and INR 25,999 for the 32GB variant.

Now the prices have been slashed to 17,999 INR for the 16GB variant and for the 32GB variant the price has been reduced to 21,999 INR. The tablet is being sold at and is also sold by Croma with the orders being fulfilled by Amazon.

The Kindle Fire HD 8.9 as the name suggests features an 8.9 inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 and a pixel density of 254 pixels per inch.

The tablet is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and an Imagination SGX544 GPU. It weighs 567 grams and is backed up by a 6000mAh battery which gives it a battery backup of up to 10 hours of normal usage. The tablet has 1GB of RAM, dual-band Wi-Fi, Dolby Audio with dual stereo speakers and Bluetooth 3.0.

The tablet runs a very old version of Android, Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, which is highly customized specifically for being used on the Kindle Fire HD and applications are available through Amazon’s AppStore instead of Google PlayStore.

The Kindle Fire HD has access to the entire audio library of Amazon, video and book content, though in India only books are available for the time being.

It surprising and worth pointing out that Amazon has still not released the updated version of Kindle Fire HD tablet in the Indian market, which comes with the all new Fire OS. The older version has been discontinued globally and has been replaced by the new Kindle Fire HDX.
