Mary Barra, who recently was appointed as the new CEO of General Motors performed the first public task by introducing the automaker’s newest entry in the truck market.
General Motors launched the 2015 GMC Canyon, during an event at the Russell Industrial Center on the eve of the North American International Auto Show.
While giving the introduction about the new truck, Barra said in a statement that “If we can delight our customers with something unexpected, we go for it”.
Adding on to it, she also stated that the company’s goal is simple, it is just to make sure that every vehicle is best in the segment in every country in which it competes.
The all-new 2015 GMC Canyon is powered by a standard 2.5L I-4 engine, which according to the company is capable of producing 193 horsepower. Another engine variant that the company is planning to launch is the 3.6L V-6 engine, which will deliver an estimated 302 horsepower.
The car will have Payload of at least 1,450 pounds and the Trailering rating of at least 6,700 pounds. Additional feature of the car include OnStar 4G LTE with built-in Wi-Fi hotspot. Whereas, for the security of the occupant, the car will be equipped with 6 airbags.
Mark Reuss, GM’s head of product development also stated that “Midsize truck customers simply want a better truck and this new canyon delivers in every way”. According to him, GMC customers list exterior styling as one of the major reason for them to buy a GMC.
As per the company’s statement, the new GMC Canyon will be built at GM’s assembly plant in Wentzville, Missouri and is expected to arrive in showrooms next fall.
