The fixtures for the 2014 FIFA World cup which is to held in Brazil were announced yesterday. Reigning champions Spain will begin their defence of the World Cup with a rematch of the 2010 final against Netherlands in Salvador on June 12 next year.
Chile and Australia are the other two teams of a tough looking Group B. Australia will play their first match on June 13 against Chile in Cuiaba.
Germany along with Portugal, USA and Ghana constitute the Group G. Germany and Portugal will meet in their first match in Salvador on June 16.
England find themselves in Group D along with Uruguay, Costa Rica and Italy. England will play Italy in their opening match on June 15 in Manaus while they’ll play their second match against last year semi-finalists Uruguay on June 19 in Sao Paulo.
Brazil found themselves in a less competitive Group A which includes Croatia, Mexico and Cameroon. Brazil will play their opening match against the Croatians in Sao Paulo on June 12.
This will be the first game of the month-long competition. After scraping through qualifying via a play-off, France were drawn in Group E with neighbours Switzerland, Ecuador and Honduras.
The Group F includes Argentina, Nigeria, Iran and the tournament’s only debutants Bosnia-Herzegovina. Argetina who have won the tournament in 1978 and 1986 will be favorites to top the group.
They’ll play their first match on June 15 against Bosnia. In Group H, Belgium will be confident of qualifying for the next stage after being drawn alongside Algeria, Russia and Korea. The Group C constitutes Colombia, Greece, Ivory Coast and Japan.
